ECTS & Grades

The College of Tourism applies the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) as a means of creating transparent study programmes, promoting student mobility, comparing study programmes, as well as recognising the achieved results and acquired qualifications. ECTS credits are accumulated for the total student’s engagement related to active teaching (lectures, exercises, seminars, tests, exams, final work) and independent student work. In accordance with the European Credit Transfer System, the score of each subject is expressed by an appropriate number of ECTS credits, and the scope of the study programme is expressed by the total of ECTS credits.

Undergraduate studies at the College last for three years with 60 ECTS each with the total of 180 ECTS credits, while specialized studies last for one academic year and bring 60 ECTS. Final papers as well as placement and traineeship both at undergraduate and specialized studies are given in ECTS credits.

Methodology of allocating ECTS credits

During two semesters, students accumulate 60 ECTS credits, corresponding to an average total engagement within the 40-hour working week. 60 ECTS credits are allocated for 1500- 1800 hours of work per year in all forms of teaching and all forms of individual studying throughout the year in order to master the course matter. Teaching takes place within 15 weeks per semester, whereby in one week the student is required to attend at least 20 classes of active teaching. The difference between the total number of 1500-1800 hours and the hours of active teaching is the number of hours the student spends on: independent studying, tests, exams, final paper, voluntary work and other forms of engagement during the academic year. The number of ECTS credits per individual subject is determined on the basis of the total student engagement: the total number of hours of active teaching and the total number of hours of active individual work.

Grading System

The grading system applied at the College of Tourism fully corresponds to the ECTS system. The achievement of the student is continuously monitored and expressed in points. By completing pre-exam and exam requirements, the student can earn a maximum of 100 points. Each course within the study programme determines the number of points earned as the pre- exam and exam requirements. Pre-exam obligations range between 30 and 70 points. The student’s results in the exam are expressed by grades from 5 to 10 with the corresponding number of points allocated for each grade: grade 6 from 51 to 60 points, grade 7 from 61 to 70 points, grade 8 from 71 to 80 points, grade 9 from 81 to 90 points and grade 10 from 91 to 100 points. Grade 5 is not entered in the student’s booklet and it means failed exam.
